Mail disappearing from subfolders

Hello

Please can someone assist me with regards to Mail. I have noticed that emails that I moved to various subfolders soon disappear and I cannot understand the reason why. I would like guidance as to how I stop this happening. For reference I have the iPhone 12 with the latest IOS 16.1.2. This issue however has been ongoing for a long time. Bizarrely though if I open the Microsoft Outlook app (which I also have on the iphone) the subfolders containing email show up. I much prefer to use the Mail app though, hence why I’d like to find the solution to my problem.

Thank you.

Hey Horwich Girl,

Have you tried setting up the subfolders again or a new one to see if it still disappears? If not, let's give it a try by following the steps from this article: Use mailboxes to organize email on your iPhone or iPad

If that doesn't help, try the following steps below:

Hi Horwich Girl,

Are you able to find those emails anywhere else in the Mail app? You can search the Mail app for emails by using the Search bar at the top of the All Inboxes. The following article goes over the different criteria you can use for the search - Search for email in Mail on iPhone

Also, you mentioned running iOS 16.1.2 on your iPhone. The most recent iOS version is iOS 16.3.1. We'd also like to have you create a backup and install that update.

Thank you Brian.

The subfolders do not disappear, it’s the actual content (the emails) within that vanish within a short period of time. I have tested it quite a few times and I can easily move mail into subfolders and they remain there for perhaps a period of time (maybe a few months) then after that, without warning they no longer show up in those subfolders. That’s what is so baffling.

I would be be grateful for any further ideas / solutions to resolve this.

Thanks

Hello Bailier.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions. I’ve updated to very latest iOS update. And it’s still not resolved the issue.

I am able to use the search facilities to eventually locate the emails, but that’s not the issue. When I click on any of the subfolders they appear empty, unless it’s an email that I’ve recently moved into one. (as in last few months)

so the million dollar question is why aren’t they still showing up say after 3 months +?
