Apps installing on one iPad, but not on others with the same iOS

I have 3 old iPad 4s that are all the same age and on the same iOS, version 10.3.3 (14G60). I am using them in class with my students so that they can play games on them for learning.

I have installed the app Scratch Jnr. on one iPad to do some coding exercises, but it will only install on one of the iPads, the other 2 are saying that it is not compatible.

How can it install on one, but not the other two? This is not the only app it happens with. Is there a setting that stops it installing the latest compatible version, like it asks on other apps?

I understand that some apps won’t be compatible on an older device, but I don’t understand why they work on one, but not on another on exactly the same iOS and device version.

I can’t afford to be buying loads of new iPads, especially when these work perfectly well otherwise. Can anyone advise?

Hey KirstyJay,

Since the app is able to be installed on one device, but is not compatible with others, you may not be using 3 of the same model iPad. You can use this article to find the model of the iPads to see if they are the same model.

You may need to contact the app developer to see if there are any other requirements we do not see.

Hey KirstyJay,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If they all have iPadOS 10.3.3 installed, they should be able to install the apps if they are compatible with that software version. For the two that won't install the apps, the following steps could help to resolve this:

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

Hi. I tried all your suggestions, but it still says that the app (Scratch Jnr) is not compatible with the device.

I have no VPN connected.

I checked the time and date. It was correct on automatic, but I set it to manual too and it still didn’t work.

I checked the storage, there is plenty.

The iPad is restarted daily, as I power them off when not in use.
