System services roaming data

How do I turn off system services as it’s currently using 50 MB of data per DAY, and I’m roaming.

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hi kariemfromsydney,

Got it. While you might be able to get some detail about the specifics by tapping the System Services listing in Settings > Cellular, there is not a way to prevent your iPhone from using that type of data as it relates to the functionality of your device. For any concerns about data roaming, your best bet is to contact your wireless carrier directly. They would be in the best position to look into any data-related concerns.

Kind regards.

Thanks Ryan - but one could *safely* assume a fundamental knowledge of settings. So your comment here while I’m sure we’ll intentioned, is as good as no answer buddy - I am asking for help. Can you assist?

I understand exactly what ryane77 is telling you. There is no way to disable data for System Services because to do so would cripple the iPhone. One of the first entries I see listed is DNS which I’m sure you understand is critical to any data functionality. The implication is that without System Services none of the other data functions will be usable.

There's no way to turn off System Services (only) because to do so is pointless and removal of the lower level supporting functions would probably disrupt any remaining data consumers. Your best course of action seems to be to disable cellular roaming data completely. Look in Settings/Cellular (or Mobile) Data/ Data Options/Data Roaming

Hello kariemfromsydney,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. You'll want to go through the list of apps that have access to your cellular data, and turn off those you don't want to use when you're not connected to a Wi-Fi network. here's how to do that: View or change cellular data settings on iPhone - Apple Support

Set cellular data use for apps and services

Go to Settings  > Cellular, then turn Cellular Data on or off for any app (such as Maps) or service (such as Wi-Fi Assist) that can use cellular data.

If a setting is off, iPhone uses only Wi-Fi for that service.

Note: Wi-Fi Assist is on by default. If Wi-Fi connectivity is poor, Wi-Fi Assist automatically switches to cellular data to boost the signal. Because you stay connected to the internet over cellular when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, you might use more cellular data, which may incur additional charges depending on your data plan. See the Apple Support article About Wi-Fi Assist.

We hope this helps.

Take care!

Tammie, I’m not sure if you completely misunderstood the question or if it is a deliberate mistake. my question is extremely clear, Apple is using cellular data for roaming services that I don’t need that I cannot turn off.

What is the way I can stop this from occurring.

I work in technology and have been travelling for 20 years to over 50 countries.

Thank you for trying, if this was a genuine attempt

So 165 MB of iTunes updates (data is turned off) and software updates(and App Store data is off )….

sooo…… after your comments… Are you certain these would stop the phone functionality -**completely**- and render it useless… because I think Apple is gonna argue that you’re wrong:

so - since I’m on Apple’s side, you’re wrong.

I wanna turn off Apple updates and everything i can access, is already off. Everything.

so no - I’d appreciate your help, but if you don’t know what you’re saying please stick to another thread. Cause you clearly, don’t.

thank you
