On a 2020 MBP with Monterey, looking at my Gmail inbox via Mac Mail, if I select the gmail Inbox, and search for XYZ, it shows me messages with XYZ in the Inbox, and also Important and All Mail messages that are NOT in the inbox.
Is there a way to constrain my mac mail searches to the Inbox folder to OMIT Important and/or Archive/All Mail?

I see - the folders listed under that menu are Trash, Junk, and Encrypted Messages. No similar controls for Inbox or Important.
Does Apple Mail have the kind of advanced search that allows multiple lines of criteria? (Like in Finder advanced search?)
Sorry, just realized that Smart Mailboxes are Apple's version of Advanced Search (multi-criteria). There should be an easier way to get into / out of that mode -- I should be able to create a smart mailbox from what's typed in the apple mail Search box. And those results should be in a separate window that I can keep open and compare to other searches / folder content lists.
Are you sure this still works? I don't see these options in Mail v16.0.
