Reinstalled Monterey on my erased iMac hard drive, but cannot update my Apple ID settings. It just spins for hours. Tried to go into Recovery to reinstalled Monterey and got the following message: Com.apple.Buildinfo.preflight.error error21.
What does this mean and what is the workaround?

I had run First Aid in Recovery mode and all checked out OK. Thank you for your response. I somehow suspect I'll have to backup my hard drive (already using Time Machine) and erase my hard drive again.
