Apple fitness plus mirror

Has anyone been able to mirror their iPhone fitness plus workout to a tv via lightning to HDMI cable? I can mirror my iPhone at the Home Screen with no problems but as soon as the workout is selected, the video on Apple fitness refuses to play. Is this a coding problem to force the use of Apple TV box? I have tried casting but this also fails and I resorted to a hard wire connection. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
