iTunes backup on a PC for Iphone 12

I backed up my iPhone 12 on my PC yesterday. It did not ask for a password. I then updated the software on my iPhone to iOS 16.3.1.

After the update, my phone (inexplicably) reset and I lost all my data. I went to restore my data from my PC (which I can see the date and time saved) and was asked for my Apple ID password.

My Apple ID password for some reason is not valid. I have tried every known version and I am stumped. My data is saved - I just can't access and restore back to my phone. I plan to call the Apple hotline but hoping there is a trick or 2 that this community might be able to share.

Appreciate any guidance.

Hi there Mr. Lyons,

It sounds like you had encrypted backups turned on for your iPhone in iTunes already. Keeping that in mind, accessing encrypted backups doesn't typically ask for your Apple ID password. It asks for a specific password that you would have created when the backups were encrypted for the first time. Learn more about that here: About encrypted backups on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

With that said, if you're being prompted to enter your Apple ID password, and it appears to be incorrect, you can try resetting it with the steps here: If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Take care.
