How do I get the 500 Yen deposit for the SUICA card (loaded in Apple Wallet, using ApplePay) returned, along with any cash balance, then close the SUICA account upon leaving Japan?

How do I retrieve the initial 500 Yen deposit (that is required to set up a SUICA card in the Apple Wallet, using ApplePay) returned to me, along with any cash balance sitting in the SUICA card, then, close down the SUICA card when I leave Japan?

There is no ¥500 deposit with Apple Pay Suica or PASMO, only with plastic cards.

As for the card balance, Mobile Suica support says to use it up:

"The "Withdrawal" procedure on the registered members menu (in Japanese only) allows the balance of the SF (Stored Fare) to be remitted to your bank account in Japan. Since it costs ¥220 for the refund, it is generally advised that you use up all the SF (Stored Fare).

You can also remove a Suica from Apple Pay if the balance is zero.
