My iPad Pro 5th Gen Apple Pencil won't charge until I remove it from the magnetic connector

Hello, after the update for iOS 16, my Apple Pencil (who lives almost all the time connected to my iPad Pro) i noticed that most of the times i go an fetch it to use it is with 0% battery.

That happens if i dont use the Apple Pencil for the day, before the update it used to have 100% all the time, now it seems to just lose connection after a while and wont charge until i remove it from the magnetic connector and put it back again.

Is anyone experiencing the same? if i leave it overnight it loses the connection too and i go to get some work done with the pencil and it is out of charge.

Many thanks!

Caio

Hello cbenatti,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about issues with your Apple Pencil.

Start with this help article to ensure it's charging properly: Charge your Apple Pencil and check the battery - Apple Support

If it is charging, but still dying quickly, it's possible the battery is consumed. Was it purchased with the iPad (5th gen) listed on your profile?

You can check the price for the Apple Pencil here: iPad Repair & Service - Apple Support

Apple Pencil and the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen are both approximately: $29

Thanks.

Hi Eric, yes, it was bought together with the iPad Pro, must be about one year and a couple of months now, and yes it is still charging but it does not die as quickly.

It does seem that after it has been idle connected to my iPad (resting on top of it) it loses its connection and does not charge anymore, forcing me to remove from the charging place and put it again on the charging place, like just unplugging and plugging to make connection again.

As mentioned, it did start with iPad os 16.0

Many thanks
