can i extend my macbook screen to an imac?

i am trying to extend my screen on my macbook pro to an imac 2019. is this possible?


iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.1

Not over a cable no. The 2019 iMac does not support Target Display Mode, and unless the MacBook Pro is from 2019 or earlier and is running Catalina or earlier, it won't support it either.

You may be able to use AirPlay Mac however, if the iMac is running macOS 12 Monterey or Later:

Set the iMac as an AirPlay Receiver: click here ➜ Set up your Mac to be an AirPlay receiver - Apple Support

Then use Airplay on the MacBook Pro: Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV - Apple Support

It should find the iMac in the Airplay menu. Do note there may be some lag.
