iCloud Mail Forwarding - some emails aren't forwarded

A week ago today, I enabled Mail Forwarding on iCloud.com. Everything I receive is forwarded to my Gmail account.

For 99% of messages the forwarding is successful. However, some are never forwarded for some reason.

Example: today I received two emails from notify@payments.interac.ca. Neither one was forwarded.

They are not in the Spam or Junk folder on my Gmail account.

Any support would be appreciated.

This is not helpful at all.

The first part of your answer is just instructions on how to set up email forwarding on iCloud.com. That is not the issue. Forwarding is enabled, and it works.

There is nothing wrong with the sender. The emails they send arrive successfully at my @me.com email address. Apple simply isn't forwarding them to my Gmail account.

There is some issue in the back-end that Apple needs to fix.

Google support got back to me with an update.

Apparently this is to do with Sender Policy Framework (SPF) records.

The domain payments.interac.ca has an SPF record that instructs recipient email services to reject messages that are not sent through their specifically authorised servers.

Apple need to modify their forwarding logic so that the email headers are altered, otherwise Gmail will reject the messages.

Apparently outlook.com doesn't care about this because they aren't adhering properly to SPF specifications, where as Google are.

Over to you, Apple.

Hi Argonaught,

You can attempt to resolve your forwarding email issue by viewing the steps listed here: Automatically forward email in Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support that are also below.

" Automatically forward email

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click the Settings button at the top of the Mailboxes list, then choose Preferences.
  2. In the General tab, select “Forward my email to,” then type the forwarding address in the text field.
  3. If you don’t want to store a copy of each forwarded message in iCloud, select “Delete messages after forwarding.”
  4. Keep in mind that storing copies of forwarded messages decreases your available iCloud storage space.
  5. Click Done.

You can also specify criteria so that only certain messages are forwarded. When you set up a rule to forward certain messages to another account, you can only use one forwarding address for each rule. See Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com."

If the issue is only occurring with emails from that specific email address, then you may gain more info from the company that is sending the email to see if the automatic forwarding option something that can be done with their emails from that email address.

Best regards.
