Notes requesting a password

Ever since I upgraded from an iPhone 8+ to an iPhone 12, my locked notes that I have never used a password for are now requesting a password. I never set a password for these notes and therefore have nothing to enter.

After reading through the responses to other peoples' posts of them in the same situation, I really need to emphasize that I did not ever set a password for these notes. I am 100% certain of this. There was no password created to begin with. This was not something I was ever prompted with when locking the notes. They've only ever used TouchID and my actual iphone's passcode, which was an automatic process and not something I decided on nor was asked to set. I am now being asked to enter a text-based password. I have tried inputting my iPhone passcode using the numbers in the [123] button and that does not work. My Apple ID password also does not work.

As I said above several times, I was not asked to create a password when I locked the notes. It automatically used my iphone passcode, which is not working with this new "password" feature. I have literally never seen it ask for a text-based password before, including when I locked the notes to begin with.
