Why when tethering my iPad Pro 2022 and my iPad Pro 2019 one is slower than the other

I have an iPhone pro 2022 and 2019 and when tethered to an iPhone 13 the iPad Pro 2019 it has poor network connectivity (not the case when on regular wifi). This results in poor MS teams connectivity etc.

How can this be fixed.

Hello SmellyCatOne,

After reviewing your original post, it looks like it’s your 2019 iPad Pro that runs more slowly. Let’s focus on that one alone then.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support -- Make sure you have recent backup of your iPad before moving to the next step.

Once a backup has been secured, we’d like for you to reset the network settings. Here’s how: Return iPad settings to their defaults - Apple Support. You’ll go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Please be aware:

* Reset Network Settings: All network settings are removed. In addition, the device name assigned in Settings > General > About is reset to “iPad,” and manually trusted certificates (such as for websites) are changed to untrusted.
* Cellular data roaming may also be turned off. (See View or change cellular data settings on iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular models).)
* When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
* To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPad.
* To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the Deployment Reference for iPhone and iPad.

Please test the issue once the network settings have been reset.

All the best.

Hello SmellyCatOne,

Sounds like your iPads are running slow when they are tethered together. We're here to help.

Let's see if any of the steps below help improve the speed.

"Use these steps first

Try connecting again after each step.

  1. Check that Personal Hotspot is turned on in Settings > Personal Hotspot. If you can't find or turn on Personal Hotspot, check that your wireless carrier enabled it and that your wireless plan supports it.
  2. Restart the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot and the other device that needs to connect to Personal Hotspot.
  3. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  4. On the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings.

Use the steps below for more help with Personal Hotspot over Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth.

More information can be found in this article for help with Hotspot: If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) - Apple Support
