Monitor Internet connection

At the moment my Internet service occasionally drops out, and it would be interesting to find out how often and when.

Could anyone recommend software that can monitor and simply report when the outside connection fails, and perhaps also performance on the LAN, although that is not as important.

TIA

Hi there Peter Blackburn,

If you are having problems with your network connection on your Mac, these steps from Solve internet connection problems on Mac can help resolve what's happening:

Check Wi-Fi recommendations or use Wireless Diagnostics
If Wi-Fi issues are detected on your Mac, you can view the issues and suggested solutions. Click the Wi-Fi status icon  in the menu bar, then choose Wi-Fi Recommendations. Wi-Fi recommendations aren’t available for enterprise networks or Personal Hotspots.
You can use Wireless Diagnostics to solve problems with a network you’ve already set up.

If this continues after looking over that and using Wireless Diagnostics, please provide more information on when this occurs and if it only occurs on one network or multiple. That will help us isolate the cause of this behavior further.

Cheers!

Thanks for replying.

They have no recommendation, and are, in fact, completely hopeless.

I have searched more and found that there are scripts that some users have written; also a Chrome add-on called Internet Connection Monitor, which can apparently do what I need.

If anyone has used this or a script, that has been successful, I would be grateful for information on how they worked.

TIA
