Why did all my deleted iMessages come back after syncing to iCloud?

I wasn't using iCloud to sync iMessage and I deleted a lot of messages on my iPhone. Then I started using iCloud for iMessage on my Mac and iPhone. Now all the messages I deleted on my iPhone over the last several years are back now. This is SO EXTREMELY inconvenient!! Why didn't it accept that once I delete I want it deleted, not added back when it syncs to something I hadn't used.

It may have changed the setting to "Keep Messages Forever".

Also on your Mac, Check:

Open Messages

In the toolbar select Messages

From the dropdown bar, select Settings

Select the "iMessages" Tab--> Make sure that "Enable Messages in iCloud" is checked

Make sure all phone numbers and emails that you want to be contacted by are checked.

Make sure "Start new conversations from:" is your phone number.

Select the "General" Tab

"Keep Messages:" Make sure this is set to, less than "Forever"

These settings may help
