Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter won't work on iPhone 13 Pro

I have an iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 16.3.1 connected to a monitor using an HDMI cable and the DAV Adapter. It won't work at all.

Using the same DAV adapter on my wife's iPhone 8 with the same monitor and cable, I get video just fine.

Is this a known bug? If so when will it be fixed? Or is it a hardware problem with my iPhone 13 Pro?

I had this problem and Apple customer support was no help. After about 2 days of Googling information…

you have to be sure you have “Accessories” turned on under Settings/Face ID & Passcode. The phone has to do an update for the device.

If you plug in the adapter when this isn’t turned on, it won’t read it. It’s as if it’s not plugged in. You can tell if this is your problem by going to Settings/General/About. The Adaptor information should show up in the WiFi section. Mine appears below “Carrier Lock”. If it doesn’t show up, the phone is not recognizing the AV adaptor.

Do a hard reset on the phone. Volume up, volume down, press and hold the on button on the right until the phone shuts down, the apple icon comes on and the phone restarts.

Now make sure “Accessories” is turned on and plug the AV adaptor in. The upgrade should process for the device and the phone should recognize the adaptor.

Good luck! Figuring this out and getting it to work on my iPhone 13 when Apple support kept telling me it was my TV was quite annoying!

Thank you so much for this solution! I just experienced my hdmi chord not being recognized when I tried to watch a video today. I just updated my system to IOS 17.3 and I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Thank you for being so detailed. Your instructions were great! I didn’t have time earlier to bother with this matter. I get annoyed when Bluetooth is automatically on every time after an update too. Now I know just to look for it:-) Thanks again, everything works fine now. Have a good one!

SOLUTION: on 10/10/23 I found the posting from Randy Zeitman that solved this issue for me on my iPhone 13 Pro with 17.0.3.

Plug your lightning adapter into the iPhone along with the HDMI cable into the Lightning & TV. I had to make sure no other units were sending a signal to other HDMI sources, so I turned off my dish box. Then do a hard restart of your iPhone. When it rebooted… My TV finally could see the lightning connection again.
