contacts corrupted

Many of my contacts get corrupted, and those I correct get corrupted again after a while. I had many with spurious strings inserted as part of part of entries – mostly, but not only addresses. The specific types of phone or address entries (e. g., "home", "work") get replaced with generic entries (e. g., "address", "phone"). Worst of all this corruption migrates from one device to another – from my desktop to my laptop to my iPhone. I have deleted all my contacts from all my computers, and entered just a few contacts in the application, but they get corrupted again. I have turned off the iPhone's sync with my Macs, and I notice that the iPhone entries don't get corrupted over time, but the Macs' contacts do. I am at my wits' end. Because most entries have generic identifiers, I no longer know which phone numbers are work numbers, which are home numbers, and which are cell numbers. I noticed this starting about 6 months ago. Help!

It sounds like you're encountering a persistent issue with your contacts becoming corrupted and losing important information such as phone numbers and addresses. Here are a few potential solutions to try:

  1. Check for software updates: Make sure that all of your devices are running the latest version of their operating systems and contact applications. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can address issues like this.
  2. Clean up your contacts: Before re-importing your contacts, it's a good idea to clean them up by removing any duplicate or incorrect entries. You can do this manually or use a third-party app to help automate the process.
  3. Re-import your contacts: Try exporting your contacts as a CSV file, then deleting all of your contacts from all devices and re-importing them from the CSV file. This can help ensure that your contacts are synced correctly and not getting corrupted during the syncing process.
  4. Use a third-party contact management app: Consider using a third-party contact management app that is known to be reliable and robust. This can help ensure that your contacts are stored correctly and not getting corrupted during syncing.
  5. Contact Apple support: If none of the above solutions work, consider contacting Apple support for further assistance. They may be able to help diagnose and resolve the issue.
