Sending email from an external mail alias on iOS Mail (iPhone)

Using the native iOS mail app to send an email from an external mail address alias set up on Mail for iPhone. Mail only seems to allow one unique sender name that it uses for both the main address and all the aliases, in my case it is an att.net mail account. After multiple sessions with Apple support escalating up to a Sr. Support Engineer, they suggested that I contact the external mail provider. It is not an issue on the mail provider side because it works fine on the macOS native mail app and used to work fine on my iPhone. I figured out a workaround on my own that behaves as expected, so far. I see this question was posted previously with no resolution so I thought I would share it here for others. Testing is ongoing but so far so good. Hope this helps.

To enable aliases on iPhone native mail app:

1. Add primary account info in Settings>Mail>Accounts, verify, save. Confirm access is working in Mail app as primary.

2. Go back into primary account info in Settings>Mail>Accounts and manually edit the “Email” field to the alias email address. Leave all other fields as is, save by selecting “Done”. Confirm that Mail App sends as the alias account now by default.

3. Re-add primary account info in Settings>Mail>Accounts, verify, save. Confirm Mail app can now send as either the primary or alias address by pulling down on the From: field and picking either one.

4. Rinse and repeat for additional aliases.
