Apple ULTRA watch - why does it not record a swim accurately - it leaves out section of the swim

Has any else experienced the watch not tracking the swim correctly - poor show for such an SPORTS orientated watch.

It happened with the first ULTRA i bought - really badly - i exchanged it within the first week, and it seemed to settle down and record properly; no no good again.

Just today it was short almost 1 km overall in a single swim - my Apple Watch Series 6 did a better job at a ⅓ of the price
