Cropping photos

I have the iphone13 pro max (IOS 16.2). Bought it for the improved camera but cropping them is driving me nuts. Previous iPhones were better. It can take 20 or more attempts to grab the side bar and slide the frame to the edge of a painting I need to crop down to its edges. All photos are stored on the device. Frequently my finger will pick up the image and move that within the cropped edges which I don’t want. I have tried switching in and off. It doesn’t seem to matter how I put my finger down.. light/ heavy touch/ sweeping touch / swearing or weeping. I have 40 photos of paintings to crop today. I see similar threads but no answer so far.

Click the cropping icon on the bottom, it's the third icon. Then at the top, click the overlay boxes icon, the one to the right of the word “auto” at the top of the screen. Once you click that, then options at the bottom will come up for size, select freeform.

I had been having the same issue until just now! After you tap crop then At the top right u will see 3 dots the pen/marker icons and next to that is a square with a two other squares inside it. Tap that and then at the bottom tap free form. This will allow you to move only one side at a time to crop. ;)

No… just using the inbuilt editor on Photos. Don’t use third party apps.

The way that you are struggling to crop a photo suggests that you are using a third-party app for this.

Unfortunately not. I went into the Apple shop and the agent said it was user error because the few times I tried in there it wasn’t a problem!! I had over 40 photos of paintings to crop when it was driving me nuts.. that’s finished until next time but the problem remains. It’s not all the time.. the first couple of grabs might be OK then it all gets very exasperating.
