Yes, that new style adaptor WILL accept Apple’s “3-conductor” extension cable.
(I’m using that very combo right now - the adaptor just arrived this week; have had the cable for a number of years)
Yo can't use it with the 35W Dual USB-C power adapter. It only works with power adapters that have a removable plug. See the section that I have outlined in red for the 30W adapter below. That section removes and the extension slides on in its place.

I didn’t have a good use for the “older” design.
I was “surfing” in the Apple store last weekend and stumbled across the “new” design; immediately snatching one up.
Def a much more versatile design than the previous style.
The wide-ranging and deep experiences available from the members of this community …

… would be difficult to replicate in ANY “standard” tech support environment.
