Here are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Quit and relaunch Mail: Sometimes, simply quitting and relaunching the Mail app can resolve this issue.
2. Restart your Mac: Restarting your Mac can also help to resolve this issue.
3. Rebuild Mailbox: You can try rebuilding the affected mailbox. To do this, select the mailbox in question, then go to Mailbox > Rebuild.
4. Disable and re-enable the email account: Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts. Select the email account that is giving you the issue and then click the minus (-) sign to remove it. Then, click the plus (+) sign to add the account back again.
5. Try a different email client: If none of the above steps work, you may want to try using a different email client to see if the issue persists.

Select a Mail message. Press the backspace key. It is deleted. Mail items must go to Apple Mail trash or junk locations, and not dragged onto the Trash bin on the Dock (just in case that was what you were attempting).

Are you trying to move the Mail Application to the trash? Or are you trying to move messages to the trash?
