Mail not sending deleted messages to Trash

For anyone having issues all the sudden with your deleted messages not show up in Trash as your settings instruct them to I have found my Trash actually shows no messages in it at all any longer. In trying different fixes I have found the the Filter (four decending lines) to be the culprit. Simply click on the filter button and the Trash shows up again !!

Not isolated to a Trash issue...

"Filter" is filtering for read/unread— therefore any mailbox that has no unread mail, when turned on—will be empty.
