Perhaps my question is in the wrong place, but I submit it in good faith.
I am logged in.
I click on “View Profile”.
I click on ”Edit Profile & Preferences”.
I click on “Edit Image”.
It says ”Edit Avatar”. But I cannot upload a portrait of me. I can only choose between animals, flowers, musical instruments and the like. How do I upload my own image?

Thanks. I have found out that I could have found the answer in the many older threads that ask the same question. I apologise for not doing that.
I am new here, and I don’t understand why adults have to earn the right to show their face like school children get stickers. I was trying to put a photo of me in my profile. I would also change my user name from JAGSiH to my real name Jan Arvid Götesson, if I knew how.
I will let the mods know of your interest in a name change. Watch for an email from them.
As for the "why?" question, we are your fellow end users, not moderators, and cannot answer "why" questions. I could speculate, but that is verboten per the Use Agreement we all agreed to follow when we signed up here,

Thanks again. My “why” was not a question to you and other users; I just expressed my surprise, as a beginner who was recently informed about this discussion community by Apple Support, and asked m first question two days ago, that I can’t just put my face in my profile straight away.
