nokia 6310

Hello,

I've just moved to a iPhone 12 but I'm getting the 'can't send' error message when trying to text a friend who has an old school Nokia 6310.

Key points:

- I can receive texts from this friend

- I can text other people okay

- I know my friend's number is fine as I can still text him using my previous Samsung

- I have disabled iMessage as the Nokia is an old school phone

- I have switched the iPhone on and off

- I have even used a new SIM

- I am completely baffled as above points I think should logically mean I should not have any outgoing text issues with this friend.

Help!

Hi dtmorley13,

If you're unable to send text messages to one specific contact, you can delete the contact then add it again to test: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

" Delete a contact

When you delete a contact, it permanently deletes it from your device. If you delete a contact from your email account, you also permanently delete the contact from all devices signed into that email account.

To delete a contact:

  1. Open Contacts and tap the contact that you want to delete.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Scroll Down and tap Delete Contact then tap Delete Contact again to confirm."

If you're still unable to text this contact after deleting their contact and adding it again, you may want to Contact Apple Support for additional assistance.

We hope this helps.

Take care!

Let me guess… you’re on Verizon.

When you activate an iPhone 14 on Verizon their automated system does not set up MMS correctly. To fix it you need to call Verizon tech support (611 on your phone), tell the nice representative who answers that you need to speak to a senior tech to fix a problem with the provisioning of MMS on your account; specifically, the MMS setting needs to be synced to the network. This is a universal problem with the iPhone 14 provisioning by Verizon, so the tech should know how to fix it. And hopefully the 1st tier reps will eventually learn also. Hello dtmorley13,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's review these recommended steps to troubleshoot your SMS issues:

"If you still need help

  • Try to restart your iPhone or iPad.
  • Check your network connection. To send a message as iMessage or MMS, you need a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. To send an SMS message, you need cellular network connection. If you turn on Wi-Fi Calling, you can send SMS messages over Wi-Fi.
  • Check with your carrier to see if the type of message you’re trying to send, like MMS or SMS, is supported.
  • If you’re trying to send group MMS messages on an iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and turn on MMS Messaging. If you don't see an option to turn on MMS Messaging or Group Messaging on your iPhone, then your carrier might not support this feature.
  • Make sure that your device has enough space to receive images and videos.
  • Make sure that you entered the correct phone number or email address for the contact.

Contact Apple Support if you still can't send or receive messages

Contact your carrier if you still can't receive SMS messages

Deactivate iMessage if you switched to a non-Apple phone and have issues with messaging"

More details can be found here: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Are you able to send SMS messages to any other devices? Also, which iOS version do you currently have installed?

Cheers!
