Maps volume options disappeared

Im on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 16.3.1

I can no longer adjust volume or turn it on or off. Sometimes it speaks directions and sometimes it doesn’t. I have read suggestions about making sure that “Spoken Directions” is turned on. It is! I have also seen suggestions about going to “Driving and Navigation”. There is no such option! So how do you change the volume now!?!!! And why in the world would Apple eliminate the easy adjustment that used to be in the app?!?!!!!!?

BTW…. Not just my phone. My husband’s iPhone 13 has exactly the same problem.

Hi grammy123,

When starting directions from Maps, you can use the volume buttons on your iPhone or the car radio if your iPhone has been connected to your car radio. If you’re still unable to change the volume, we recommend contacting Apple Support here: Contact - Official Apple Support

There is no audio button on the Map! That's the problem! Yes I was able to go into the settings and see that, but why is the audio button on the Map gone? While driving, you can't be messing around with leaving the Map app and going into settings and then into the next and again the next page in order to make those changes. It's is unsafe to do so. This problem needs to be fixed and the audio button needs to be put back!
