Cellular Connection

After overnight charging I get this message "Could not activate cellular data network". Turning phone on/off is the only thing that fixes problem.

Hello MFML,

We would like to see how we can help you with this cellular error. Does this happen every day? Which iOS version are you currently running? Go to Settings > General > About for the version. Check out the steps in this link and get back to us with your results: Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

  1. "Make sure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install your carrier update."

Get back to us with these details so that we have a better understanding of the issue, and we can go from there.

Cheers!

Thanks for showing interest in my problem. Running iOS 16.3.1. I went to Settings > General > About, but there were no instructions, or options, for updating carrier settings. More often than getting the "Could not activate cellular data network" message, the phone is just been unable to join the internet (WiFi and cellular) after overnight charging. Went to Apple Store at they performed an exhaustive diagnosis routine (no problems indicated) and refreshed/reflashed the entire system. I re-built the phone from scratch (royal pain), not from a Cloud or macOS backup. The very next day, the system was unable to get internet.

Since the problem, in my mind, had something to do with the charging cycle, I switched from charging from a wall plug that had integrated USB ports to using a charging brick I got with my iPad. The next morning the system worked perfectly! Unfortunately, the very next day, the system refused to get on the internet again.

The failure to get internet in the morning started as a once a week occurrence and has gradulally become a near daily issue. Always, an on/off cycle solved the problem. It has never happed other that after an overnight charge.
