In 2023, can I use the Lightning to HDMI adapter for Fitness+ and ATV+?

I’ve found that back in 2020, the Lightning to HDMI adapter from the iPhone / iPad was not supported to view Fitness+ workouts (say in a hotel room).

Has this changed as of 2023 and iOS 16? I.e. Can I connect my iPhone to a Hotel TV using the Digital AV Adapter and do a Fitness+ workout?

Bonus question, can I play ALL of the Apple TV+ content this way?

Hello WestVanPete,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Currently, you can only use specific devices to view and use Apple Fitness+. The following resource lists all compatible devices: Devices you can use with Apple Fitness+ - Apple Support

You'll notice that adapters or similar accessories are not listed as compatible. As for Apple TV+, specific devices and Smart TVs can be used to view Apple TV+ content. For that list of compatibility, review the resources below:

1.) Get the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ app on your smart TV or streaming device - Apple Support

2.) Watch on Smart TVs and streaming devices - Apple Support

3.) Watch on Apple TV (4K, HD, and 3rd generation) - Apple Support

4.) Watch on gaming consoles - Apple Support

5.) Watch on cable or satellite services - Apple Support

We hope this information is useful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Cheers.

Just hopping on here to say that I've been (trying) to use the Digital AV Adapter with Fitness+ and it's been a very frustrating experience to say the least.

Sometimes it works fine, but I've encountered the following issues randomly:

  • Pixellations/artifacts on the video
  • Video pausing, but audio continuing - sometimes the video resumes, sometimes it doesn't
  • Videos not starting (says the video is unavailable)
  • Videos crashing halfway through the workout (again, says the video is unavailable). No way to resume the workout from the point I left off

I've tried downloading the workouts first and have had the same issues. I don't have any of these issues when I just watch the workout on my phone.

Did you get any information from Apple support? I haven't reached out yet (but probably will). If you haven't already come to this conclusion I would recommend not paying for Fitness+ if you intend to use the adapter with it.

Thank you,

Yes, I realize I can use both Fitness+ and AppleTV+ on my iPhone.

My question was will I be able to use the Digital AV Adapter to view this content on a TV, say in a hotel room?

And if not, exactly what is this Digital AV Adapter used for? The description would suggest it works, but it did not in 2020.

Has anyone tried it with Fitness+ recently? Because all I want to do is MIRROR my screen, which says it's supported.

"Use the Lightning Digital AV Adapter with your iPhone, iPad or iPod with Lightning connector. The Lightning Digital AV Adapter supports mirroring of what is displayed on your device screen — including apps, presentations, websites, slideshows and more — to your HDMI-equipped TV, display, projector or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD.

It also outputs video content — movies, TV shows, captured video — to your big screen in up to 1080p HD. Simply attach the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Lightning connector on your device and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately)."
