Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
My Airport time capsule will not reset. I have tried to hard reset and factory reset. Now what?
Two possibilities:
1) If the Time Capsule really will not reset, then a component has failed on the Time Capsule and it will no longer be useable, since Apple does not offer repairs for the product.
2) You may be not be looking in the right place in AirPort Utility for the Time Capsule to "show up".
To see if 2) might be the case.......perform a Hard Reset on the Time Capsule again
Then, open AirPort Utility and click on the Other Wi-Fi Devices button
Look to see if Time Capsule xxxxxx appears. If it does, click on Time Capsule xxxxx and the AirPort Utility set up "wizard" will open up and suggest the correct setup for the Time Capsule.
Post back if you need more information on the setup.
My Airport time capsule will not reset. I have tried to hard reset and factory reset. The light just flashes amber. The wifi on my mac it shows the name of the network but it will not reset and in the utility it just does not show up.
Now what?
Yeah I am either not doing the reset right or it's broken. It has never been used. The light just flashes amber. I push the reset button and hold it for about 10 seconds but nothing. I also tried to turn off the power and then push the rest and hold it power up and hold it till it starts flashing. Nothing! So disappointed in Apple. My brotherI tried to set this up a couple of years ago and was not successful. I think it shows up in my wifi connection as his name but he does not remember the password. It has sat in the closet for several years now. I thought I'd give it a try.
Thanks for the reply.
Yes there is a click. I have been trying to figure out the PW that my brother used. I got it and it showed up. I renamed it then changed the PW. I tried to set it up as an extender. When I hit the update button it disappeared from the utility. Now I can even see it on my WiFi network. This thing is making me crazy. I again tried to do both the hard reset and the factory reset to no avail. Uhhhgggg! Back to just having a flashing amber light and now it does not even show up in my wifi list.
The Time Capsule cannot act as a wireless extender unless the "main" router is also another AirPort router. In other words, the "extend" function on the Apple routers is a proprietary feature that only works on Apple routers.
If the main router is not another Apple AirPort product, the only way that the Time Capsule can be configured is via a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection.
When you push the reset button in, there should be a definite positive "click". Is that the case? If not, the reset button itself is likely broken, and could possibly be repaired.
Okay, I get that now so how do I find it again? Is there a way to get it back into the utility?
Unfortunately, you will have to perform a Hard Reset or Factory Default Reset again to get the Time Capsule back to a state where it can be configured again.
Thanks for your help Bob. Oh well in the trash it goes.
