Calendar travel time feature not working

For several years (and macOS revisions, and across different Macs), Calendar's "travel time" feature hasn't been working for me. Regardless of which address I put in for the event, it doesn't suggest any travel time.

My home and work addresses are correctly entered in my Contacts card and there are no duplicate entries for me. Calendar and all system processes have access to my location. I've tried signing out and back in to iCloud, restarting in Safe Mode, making another test user... it appears that this issue is user specific, however not to my local Mac user. Instead, it seems to be specific to my personal iCloud account. My iCloud account is quite old, it has been transferred from iTools to .Mac to MobileMe and now iCloud. Over the years, it seems to have acquired certain database "eccentricities" that no one is able to address.

I have spent several days addressing this issue with Apple Support, where we, at the time, found out that the problem was dependent on the "day start" and "day end" times set in the calendar app. Outside of this time, travel time was working, but inside of the duration, it was not. Today, I tested it again, and it seems to not be working at all now, regardless of the hours set.

I have already followed all the steps in the relevant support document, but nothing helped. I suspect this is an issue connected to my personal iCloud account in particular, so there is nothing I can do.

Several years ago, I filed a bug report with Apple, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't even been processed.

Anyone else have any more suggestions?

Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's review these steps to make sure everything is set up correctly:

"Add travel time

  1. In the Calendar app  on your Mac, double-click or force click an event, then click the event’s date. (You can also select an event, then use the Touch Bar.)
  2. Click the Travel Time pop-up menu, then choose an option.
  3. Note: Travel time doesn’t update automatically when you change locations.

The time to leave is calculated based on the preference you choose in the Maps app in the View > Directions menu.

Calendar finds your starting location by using the location in any events that are up to 3 hours before this event. If Calendar doesn’t find a location, it uses your work address or home address (from your card in the Contacts app), depending on the time of day. (Set your work hours in Calendar General settings using the “Day starts at” and “Day ends at” pop-up menus.) If your card in Contacts doesn’t have your addresses, Calendar uses your computer’s current location. Determining your computer’s location requires that Location Services be turned on (see Change Privacy settings)."

More details can be found here: Add location and travel time to events in Calendar on Mac

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Have you checked your preferences in the Maps app? Also, what is your exact macOS version?

Cheers!
