Mail - slecting 'From' Email address

I have multiple email addresses. Apple has removed the option to choose the address from which to send the email. I wish it would leave the 'from' field blank as it used to older version of mail app. Right now its AI system sends email often from a wrong (not desired email address). Even if I have a particular inbox open it decides to send mail from a different email address. It is very frustrating and sometime embarrassing.

This problem persists in Ventura also.

Please suggest a solution,

or Apple: do something about it.

Apple didn’t remove the option. What may have happened, is all of your accounts are set to use the one SMTP server. The from pop-up menu will not appear if there is only one outgoing server in use.

You’ll have to go into Mail settings, accounts, and make sure each account is using its own outgoing server.

SMTP servers are different for each account. The issue is in:

Mail>Preferences>Composing>Send new messages from

Earlier you could leave it blank, and you will have to mannually choose the outgoing email address. Now either you choose a particular address or let Apple AI decide 'Automatically select best account'.

It usually makes a dumb choice.
