I am missing photos from Iceland, Sept 2016. Some of my pictures from the trip appear in photos but several are just gone. They are not hidden and they don't show up on my Mac or iPhone. Ideas?

When was the last time you saw those pictures? What has happened since then-- did you do an update of the operating system, or did you use some sort of "cleaning" app?

What operating system are you using on your Mac? The most recent one is macOS 13.2.1 Ventura.

Are you using iCloud to synchronize Photos on your Mac and on your iPhone? if so, have you looked to see if your pictures are at iCloud.com?

Have you looked in the Recently Deleted section of Photos?

If you haven't done this, try using a Smart Album to search for pictures of Iceland. Or use the search field in the upper right of the corner of the Photos window:

(I haven't been to Iceland-- I'm jealous!)

If the dates are wrong, try to search for typical Iceland landmarks, like waterfalls or glaciers or rainbow. When I search for any of these categories, some of my Iceland photos appear.

Do your Iceland photos appear in the Places? Then pan the Places map to Icleland.

Or, perhaps you have been importing the iceland photos into a different Photos Library. Try to connect any external drive you may have been using with your Mac when you imported your iceland photos and look there for a different Photos Library.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am using version 13.2.1.

I tried doing a smart album for the days I was there using date captured and I have no pictures showing up on 9/19/2016. I think that is the date I'm missing. I looked in iCloud and did not see the pics there either. I don't remember the last time I saw them. Our kids were going to Iceland last year and I wanted to share pics with them of the sheep herding and those pictures are gone. And now that I do a little digging I'm sure it was from Sept 19.

I have updated my lap top since then. No cleaning app was used.

It's just frustrating at this point. And you should go!! Iceland is beautiful!!

Good ideas, all of them. I tried searching for waterfalls, sheep, horses but to no avail. I remembered using two Iceland pictures for my Facebook background and profile pics. I added them to my library since they were two of the photos missing. I checked out Places but none of them show. I do have an external drive. I'll check there altho I don't remember using it to backup photos. Can't hurt to try.

Thank you for all your help! I'm learning a lot in this process.
