Recently when I receive picture texts, they come in as IMG_2222.jpeg and if it’s a video the “IMG” is replaced with”MOV”. I’ve tried resetting iMessage and all that but nothing seems to work. Thanks!

Hey there Ackerman101,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

Just to clarify, when you say that photos received in the Messages app come in as "IMG_2222.jpeg" are you not able to see the preview of the image? If you tap the image, is the image able to load and be viewed without issues?

If not, while we understand that you've tried resetting iMessage, have you tried restarting your iPhone? If not, since restarting your device can often help with resolving some unexpected issues, give that a try with the steps below: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

How to restart your iPhone 6, 7, 8, or SE (2nd or 3rd generation)
1. Press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

If the issue persists after restarting your iPhone, are the photos unable to load when connected to Wi-Fi, cellular, or both? If you try testing the issue with your iPhone connected to a different Wi-Fi network, does the issue persist? This can help rule out a possible network issue.

Keep us updated on what you find.

Take care!

Hey Chris! Thanks for the response! I actually did restart and shut off IMessage, but embarrassingly enough I didn’t know I needed to update my ios but in my defense, I’ve never had this issue in the past with an outdated ios. That seemed to fix the issue, after I updated I was able to see the download button. Now all picture messages come through as they once did before. Again, thanks for your time and help 👍🏼 hope all these resolutions can help someone in the future!
