If so, then you can't leave your account without a payment method when it has an active subscription.

You would need to add another payment method to your Apple ID first to cover the active subscription before you can remove the remove the payment method currently on there.

Otherwise, cancel he subscription first and wait for it to expire, then you will be able to remove the payment method without adding another one.

You have a subscription tied to your current credit card, you'll need to update subscription with your new credit card first, then you can change it with your apple id.
