If you're having difficulty updating your iPad, you'll want to start by making sure you're updating to the latest iPadOS version, which is iPadOS 16.3.1. If that's not the version you see attempting to update in Settings > General > Software Update, you'll want to remove the download from Settings > General > iPad Storage, then start again.
