AirPods head tracking keeps turning back on

Hello,

I've spent hours on the phone with Apple Support, to no avail; they keep advising different settings to reset or saying I should reach out to the App developer, even though the app developer is Apple in some cases.

Basically, for apps that do not play sound in background, head tracking is always enabled upon first taking my airpods out of the case. I have to go into accessibility settings, toggle head tracking ON and then back OFF to disable head tracking. This only lasts as long as the airpods remain out of the case and the settings app remains open in the background.

I have already contacted apple support. I have done everything short of an entire reset on my phone; I do not want to reset my phone, and I can tell by browsing both these forums and others that the issue is happening for others, and it is not unique to myself or my phone.

How can I proceed?

Thanks,

Andrea

To provide some additional information:

Basically, for apps that do not play sound in background (e.g., Reddit, iMovie), head tracking is always enabled upon first taking my airpods out of the case. It seems that this happens for apps that won't play in the background or in a pop-out picture, and apps that allow headtracking when it's supposed to be turned on. (I was unable to duplicate this with Facebook, which does not play in background, but Facebook also wasn't tracking audio when I had it turned on intentionally.) Hence the difficulty in narrowing down if it was specific to an app or not. I've been able to duplicate the bug on the reddit app and the iMovie app, but I suspect it could occur on other apps. I have reached out to Reddit App support, but given that this is also occurring on Apple created apps, I believe it's an issue with the Apple Software.

There is a temporary fix to this issue: I have to go into accessibility settings, toggle head tracking ON and then back OFF to disable head tracking. This only lasts as long as the airpods remain out of the case and the settings app remains open in the background.

The control center option to set to Fixed does not apply here, because these are apps that do not play in the foreground. So, even when I check the control center, it shows it set to off, but also shows it utilizing a different app than the one in question.
