Dropping iPhone in toilet

I dropped my iPhone in the toilet but got it out within seconds. I dried it off with paper towel and also took it out of the cover and dried that before putting it back on. It seemed to work fine for 5 hours but then i went to charge it and got a message that I couldn’t because the port was wet. So now it’s sitting in rice. How long do I keep it under rice and how will I know if it’s damaged?

Rice to dry out an electronic device is a old wife's tail and usually provides no benefit. It can actually cause more harm than good. It's just not an effective desiccant.

If the phone got water in the port and it leaked into the phone, the phone may suffer irreparable damage. While you can, back up your iPhone and then schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar. Apple will not attempt to fix an iPhone which was damaged by liquid. So best to be prepared to buy an Out of Warranty replacement.
