you computer has been locked
I received a web page message which said my computer was locked and to call an 888 number to unlock. Also said I should not power off computer.
Is this bogus? I powered off anyway.

No, all such messages are scams presented by criminals. Close the offending page and avoid sites that are involved in such bogus advertising tactics. Do not interact with the message or the sender. Do not download anything based on such bogus messages.
