60W MagSafe Power Adapter not charging Macbook pro 11 | Green Light does not change to Orange

I have been using my Macbook for a couple of years, I noticed that the charging light does not change to orange and so the laptop is not charging. I though maybe it's the battery issue after this so long time, so I bought a new battery from Amazon and I installed it but still the same case. I searched Youtube and google but could not find a good solution. I'm afraid if I buy a new power adapter that still could not resolve the issue.

Anyone please have any experience that could share with me?

What is the exact model of the Mac? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac".

FYI, the quality of third party Lithium-ion Batteries is extremely poor, sometimes even when purchased from a reputable vendor like OWC or iFixIt (these are my first two choices whenever an official OEM battery is not available through an Apple repair/replacement). While there are some decent vendors selling on the Amazon marketplace, it can be hard to tell which ones, plus many times a vendor may not be able to get the same quality battery every time they restock. The Amazon reviews are worthless these days for multiple reasons (paid reviews, and Amazon infrastructure issues allowing ratings & reviews to be "transferred" to other items & vendors as examples).

Try unplugging the charger from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the charger's internal circuitry. And try plugging the charger into another electrical outlet (or into the wall outlet if using a power surge strip). There may be small thin metal or even a staple stuck in the Magsafe port. Here is an Apple article with some other Magsafe charger troubleshooting tips:

If this does not lead to a solution, then it is anyone's guess at what hardware on the laptop is faulty. Usually the weakest link is the battery. Liquid damage is also another common reason for issues (only takes a single drop of liquid at the right place on the electronics). Troubleshooting generally requires known good spare parts to confirm which part(s) are faulty. Unfortunately running the Apple Diagnostics won't help if it reports a bad battery since the diagnostics will fail when some third party batteries are installed. They would be useful if they reported some other failure. Or if they had passed the battery tests with the third party battery, then later failed them once you discovered a problem.

Methods and sites I've used to solve this...

Troubleshooting Mac Charge:

Refer to the following....

A. Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies yo Intel-Based Macs Only) Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. Updates), system configurations (i.e. for Power) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Try performing each thrice. It may take sometime, being certain you have the time to perform these resets.

B. Try a New Charger:

C. A Few Links to Refer to for Power:

Thank you for your time and explanation.

  1. The model is Macbook Pro 2011
  2. I do agree with you about the quality of the battery and so I return it back to Amazon. I'm living in Belgium Liege city, so I may have to search for reputable vendor near me. Possibly I can find in Maastricht Nederland.
  3. I did unplugged the charger and tried another outlet but same result.
  4. I'm in agreement with your idea that is possibly because the liquid damage. I was living in a damp house so it's possible it's a liquid issue.

Still the question is that if I need a battery from a reputable vendor or I shall go for an adapter? With the Amazon Battery, the laptop finally turned on but it was not charging. The battery percentage was decreasing by one percent as I was looking in just less than a minute.

Just for information of reviewer who may have the same issue. I tried many ways to resolve this issue including changing the adapter, changing the battery and cleaning the cash and everything listed above, yet none of them could helped me. I think for my case, there is issue with the board. I don't want to spend more on this laptop by sending it to repairing shop, I will have to buy a new one :(
