MacBook Pro Compatiblity with Apple USB SuperDrive

I am having an Apple USB SuperDrive but it doesn't work with MacBook Pro 2022 (do not come with USB port) when I try to connect it via USB-C to a USB adapter (not from Apple but it didn't work. My Apple USB SuperDrive works fine with the older MacBook come with USB port itself. May I know if a Apple USB-C to a USB adapter shall solve the problem and connect to the Macbook pro ? I contacted Apple help and it doesn't help as he advised to buy an older version of mac or buy a third party dvd drive. I fed up on the Apple Support and would like to seek other opinions.

Thanks.

Welcome!

User reports here state that non-Apple adapters are problematic with the SuperDrive and Macs with USB-C ports. Apple recommends three of their adapter models in this article:

How to connect the Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple Support

No hubs or "splitters."

However, many people reporting apparent inactivity with the SD on newer Macs found that the drive appeared unrecognized until they inserted a disk into the SuperDrive. Make sure you are testing with a disk onboard.

As your fellow end users with no ability to see, touch, nor remotely access your computer, we cannot guarantee what will and won't work, The last hardware updates to the USB SuperDrive were in Summer 2012  😳 so it is an old bit of kit. That said, people are making them work on recent Macs.

Make sure you have a disk in the drive for testing. If that does not work, try one of Apple adapters.

I am asking the Mods to move this question to the MacBook Pro forums. The "Older Hardware" section you posted has a very non-intuitive name but in reality is for pre-1998 Apple hardware. It gets about as many views as a "Lost Kitty" flyer posted on the inside of a sewer pipe! Not your fault.

Hi Allan Jones,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your effort of helping to move this question to the right forums.

I was so confused earlier as the Apple advisor indicated that the Apple USB-C to USB adapter will not work with apple pro. So I posted here earlier to clarify again before I go ahead to purchase it. I will definitely get one if it could resolve the problem.

Thanks.

Regards,

Li T.
