Deleting files won't go to trash

When I want to delete anything, instead of going to trash, it gets fully deleted immediately.

I just transferred all my data over from a 2015 Mac Book Pro to new Mac Book Air - things worked find on the Pro (runnin on Monterrey) - but now, not.

Any suggestions about how to get files to go into trash rather than get deleted immediately?

Thanks.

MacBook Air, macOS 13.2

Have you shut down and rebooted more than once since your transfer?

—Relaunch the Finder on the fly from the >Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch and test

If no resolve—

If it is a corrupt plist, you can remove the .Trash directory...from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash

note: your psswd will not echo on screen type it in anyway, use the enter\return key to proceed.

Your user Trash directory will be rebuilt to default. Reboot if necessary.

One Size does Not Fit All

If the new computer is going to be the Apple Silicon M1 / M2 Equipped Computer - would suggest Only Migrating the User Account and nothing more.

Some have had success and others have been left with a mess when Migrating everything.

1 - Apple Silicon with Ventura macOS 13 Only Support everything 64 bit and there is no workaround.

2 - Issues that may exist on the older computer will be migrated to the New Computer. This would badly pollute the new Original and Pristine installation of the new OS.

3 -  Applications, extensions and Software Drivers may or may not even work on the new computer.

4 - IMHO - it would be best to only install new application etc Directly from the Developer or the Apple Apps Store.

5 - Due Diligence on New Applications and make sure they are Ventura / Monterey / Big Sur compatible and factor in the ARMs CPU of the Apple Silicon Computer

Thanks for this: I tried the Terminal option you suggested - no change...

It begs the question how?

I will say The most trouble free way to move to a new machine,  is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. Set up your MacBook Pro - Apple Support

The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.

Thanks - unfortunately, some of the suggested fixes are rather beyond my level of confidence. I've been in touch with Apple SUpport this morning and spent an hour on the phone with a very helpful guy - who couldn't figure out what the problem is. He's going to work on it some more and come back to me - so hopefully he'll come up with a solution that I can implement easily.
