when Mac is idle a while it requires me to use sign in password

When Mac is idle a while it requires me to use sign in password. Before this I only had to use the password upon rebooting.

Appel menu > System Settings > Lock Screen > Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off > Never

That locked the screen. Instead I tried System Preferences/Security and Privacy and then chose General/Require password after XX hours. Never was not a choice so I went for 8 hours. Thanks for your reply--it gave me a direction for searching and let me know I'm not nuts. (this time) My Mac is on Monterey; I think Ventura has the Never option.
