moving a widget from one home screen to another creates a variety of messy results

I’ve found several older posts about this widget/app/folder problem regarding iOS 14, but I’ve been having the same problem recently while running iOS 16.3 (on an iPhone 14) The problem was well explained by another user and I’ve pasted part of it below (this earlier post was about iOS 14, but describes my problem exactly).

Maybe half the time, or every 3rd time I move a widget from one screen of apps to another, the apps will end up in a jumble:

#1. it shifts the other apps and widgets into disorganized new positions.

#2. Sometimes entire folders completely empty while I am moving an app or widget to a new Home Screen and the apps within the folders empty and disperse across multiple home screens, which ruins the entire organization of apps and widgets previously in place. It makes a huge disorganized mess.

I’ve spend a lot of time getting apps back into the order I prefer. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks!!

Hi j4rd,

For help with adding widgets to your Home Screen, be sure you're completing the steps below found in the article here: How to add and edit widgets on your iPhone

"How to add widgets to your Home Screen

  1. From the Home Screen, touch and hold a widget or an empty area until the apps jiggle.
  2. Tap the Add button Gray add button in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select a widget, choose a widget size, then tap Add Widget.
  4. Tap Done.
