One more minute

Hello.

Is there a way to disable the "one more minute" feature entirely on downtime?

For example if my kid has 30 games on his phone, he still uses each app for 1 minute right in the morning, so he can use the phone for 30 minutes even though it should be downtime.

It makes the whole parental controlling feature kinda useless, and doesn't help the child to get rid of the clear addiction he has on the phone :(

It's hard to get them doing anything because their thoughts are in the phone all - the - time.

I don't see taking the phone away appropriate at all, because I don't want to limit calling and messaging to their friends. And like I said, the apps that are not allowed on downtime, do in fact still work because of the one more minute. Sooo it comepletely waters down the downtime idea.

I find it absurd that we don't have a simple way to let us really control the phones and not the other way round.

Thank you. Although I naturally knew all that, and I think simpler answer would have been: No. You can't disable one more minute entirely.

But I think I found a way to avoid this stupid feature manually: To set content restrictions for apps to age 4+ during downtime. There. All 4+ apps greyed out. Takes some frustrating fiddling a couple of times a day, but no more one more minutes, or should we say "one more 30 minutes" for gaming.

Hi there Pertti664,

While you can't completely disable the option for a child account to use 'One More Minute' during Downtime, they should only be able to use it once. You'll want to be sure you have a Screen Time passcode set up and 'Block At Downtime' enabled:

If you set a Screen Time passcode, Downtime includes an additional setting: Block At Downtime. When you choose this setting and you click Ask For More Time when Downtime starts, entering the passcode allows you to approve the app for 15 minutes, an hour, or all day. Child accounts can click One More Minute once, or click Ask For More Time to send their request to the parent account for approval.

You'll find this information and more here: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Also, you can always submit feedback to Apple directly for any features you'd like to see. You can do so here: Product Feedback - Apple

Take care.
