Screen sharing, MacBook Pro to MacBook Air

I purchased a 2023 MacBook Pro with Ventura OS. My old computer is a 2017 MacBook Air with Monterey OS. When attempting to screen share, I can use my older Mac to access and control the display on my new Mac Pro, but attempting to do the same with the Mac Pro to control the Mac Air, I cannot connect. In “System settings/ Displays”, it recognizes and can connect to my iPad, but doesn't see my Mac Air. Screen sharing is turned on in Mac Air.

  • I have tried all that already. I looked in MacBook Pro Essentials in Apple Support, and found under "System requirements for Continuity on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch" in the heading "Universal Control" it says, "MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later" is compatible. Mine is a 2017 model. This appears to be the problem, but there is no explanation of the nature of the incompatibility.
