Screen sharing from iMac (Ventura) to MacBook Pro (Sonoma) suddenly not working

Until today, I have been successfully sharing the screen of my 2018 MacBook Pro (Sonoma 14.1.2) with my 2017 iMac (Ventura 13.6.3). Now, with the settings unchanged, I can't get the iMac to connect (just spins and spins) and share the MacBook's screen.

I've checked the settings on both devices, researched various fixes, but am having no luck. I can't upgrade to Sonoma on the iMac because it's too old (in case this is the solution).

Going out of my mind! Can anyone help me?

Ordinarily, I do not configure my 2021 MBP M1 Pro (Ventura 13.6.3) for screen sharing. I did so, and had the communication errors when attempting to view the screen on my M2 Mac Mini Pro. Once I rebooted the MBP, then I could immediately screen share the mini (Sonoma 14.2) to it.

But… I could not screen share the MBP with the Mini until I rebooted the mini and then that also worked immediately. One should not need to reboot, but there you have it. Both firewalls on. Block all connections off. Allowable screen share users were administrator and my personal name.

If you are doing this via Wi-Fi, verify that the recipient Mac is using an SSID on the same network and you are not attempting this from a hotspot with a different SSID name. That will stop you in your tracks.

I have a 32-inch LG 4k display on my M2 Mac Mini Pro (Sonoma 14.2) and frequently share the screen from my 2020 27-inch iMac (Monterey 12.7.2) or even Windows 11 Pro as a Parallels Pro 19.2 Guest from that iMac. Using Wi-Fi 6 for the connection.
