family sharing for Apple TV movies not working

hi, i purchased a movie for rent from Apple TV app.

My friend is a family shared member.

When she searches for the movie on her app it only gives option to rent or buy.

I have checked all settings to ensure purchases etc are shared.

please help!

Family Sharing: Share movies, not payment? I have family sharing. I want my family to have access to my movies I bought on apple. However, I do not want payment sharing as my family is not a group of children, but rather adults who need to be able to designate other credit cards to cover other purchases. Why is this so complicated? Is there a way share purchases but not payments?

I am very confused by “Family Purchase Sharing.” Every article I read keeps referencing “Family Sharing” and “Purchase Sharing” as if they’re two separate things you can toggle independently. On my phone, it’s literally one setting: Family Purchase Sharing. There is no separate switch. Most guides make it sound like you can turn on Family Sharing while keeping Purchase Sharing off. I’m not seeing that option anywhere. So if there truly is a way to share media with family without also volunteering to bankroll all their random purchases, please enlighten me. I would like to share movies I rent or buy with my siblings, who are already on my Apple One plan. That’s it. I am not interested in underwriting every app, subscription, or impulse buy they decide to make. I already pay for the Apple One account. Am I seriously expected to pay for all of their purchases too just to share a single movie? That’s absurd.

Rented content is excluded from Family Sharing. It is not supported by design.
