On Mac, why can't I insert image files in Messages?

I have a png, jpeg, etc file sitting on my hard drive. (Not in Photos.) I just want to import into a message, and send.

I've only been using Macs since 1985, so maybe I'm missing something? Seems like a pretty standard thing to do.

No I don't want to open it with some other then copy and paste. (That often doesn't work in any case.)

(It's like the Preview app not having Save As... on the menu. Sheesh.)

All the latest software running here...

I think there might be a glitch here. Try refreshing it and then try again. Hope it'll work then.

Sometimes it just happens with me as well, like when playing games. So, I just close the apps and restart them.

I’m not a mousy guy, dragging windows around to do that drag and drop business. But good suggestion, it’s better than importing images into photos first so I can simply click the gosh darned “add an image” button next to the text field.

Thank you!! Preview just got much better.

copying and pasting is a pen and frequently doesn’t send for me. Just clicking add image button doesn’t seem strange to me… seems odd that it doesn’t let you add an image, except from photos, etc.
