Message failed to send error but actually did.

This has been happening to me a lot recently (last two to three weeks). On multiple people with iOS - late model Apple iPhones.

I send a text and OR a video/photo and I get a "Failed to Send" error. But the person tells me they got the information just fine.

I discovered this when I kept trying to send my son a photo and he called me to say STOP! 5 copies is enough.

Since then, I have had others tell me that they are also receiving what I send.

Suggestions?

Thank you.

Messages is the app; iMessage is the Apple service.

Do you have Settings>Messages>Send As SMS enabled? If so, when the message fails to send as an iMessage, it will be sent as an SMS (green message). If I recall correctly, you'll see it turn green but, it's been a while.

If this is happening only occasionally but with all recipients, it would indicate to me that something is wonky about your phone's data connection. Is it happening when you're connected to WiFi? Or cellular data? Or both?

You might try resetting your network settings. Settings>General>Transfer or Reset Phone>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will lose saved WiFi passwords but nothing else.
