Making highlight color darker

A previous response to this question suggested using Accessibility in System Settings to increase contrast and/or reduce transparency. But when I open Accessibility, those utilities—Increase contrast and Reduce transparency—don't respond to my clicks. Neither does Display contrast. In fact, none of the options, whether under Display or Pointer, responds to clicks. The highlight color is way to faint for me to see, most of the time. Any ideas on how I can make it darker? Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

I did. That allows me to pick a color, but all of them are too faint in Open Office—including when I pick the darkest possible color from the color wheel that appears on selecting "Other." As I said in my question, the options to increase contrast or reduce transparency in the Accessibility function don't respond to my clicks.

 OpenOffice

Mac OS X (X11)

  • Power Mac G3 400Mhz or higher
  • Mac OS X 10.4.x
  • 256Mbytes RAM
  • 400Mbytes available disk space
  • X11 required. Available for OS X 10.4 on the OS X install disc.
  • 800 x 600 or higher resolution with 16.7 Million colours

I think the software maybe the root cause of this issue

The is may consider a more recent Free Suite of Applications such as https://www.libreoffice.org/ which may just work better as it relates to Ventura macOS 13
